Dining in Santa Fe

Santa Fe, NM

I talked last week about the beautiful landscape around Santa Fe, but this week I want to talk about food. If you have never been to Santa Fe before you may think that, based on the location, the local fare would be heavy on the tex-mex and low on variety. But luckily, oh how wrong you would be. For in-depth details about all of the best local options, look no further than the Santa Fe Reporter Restaurant Guide (also available around town as a magazine). If that doesn't convince you, Santa Fe also managed to ranks in the top 10 Best Food Cities in the US according to Condé Nast Traveler.

Today I'm going to give you an inside look at this incredible food scene by focusing on two wonderful meals that we had on my short trip. First up is one of our family favorite spots, Harry’s Roadhouse. The menu boasts not only superb New Mexican cuisine, but also very inventive vegetarian options and to-die-for desserts baked right on the premises. I definitely made use of the dessert menu.

If you’re looking for something a little more worthy of a date night, head over to il piatto. Serving rustic italian cuisine, this restaurant aims to please with lovely wait staff and a warm ambiance. We happened to have a late dinner when we ate here and realized that along with a regular happy hour from 4:30-6pm, they also have a “late night” happy hour from 9-10:30pm. Half-priced wine by the glass, appetizers and small plates during this time are a great way to try extra dishes!

I hope this look into the delicious Santa Fe food scene helps to add this beautiful destination to your bucket list. Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for a perfect hiking spot, along with a full Victinerary to help plan your future trip.
