Hudson Valley Road Trip

Sometimes there's nothing better than hopping in the car and setting out to explore for the day. With President's Day giving me an extra day last weekend, I took a little road trip from Troy, NY down through some Hudson Valley towns so that I could stop and enjoy the scenery.

For me, the best part of these old towns is the beautiful architecture on all of the buildings. I made Hudson, NY my first stop, and had way too much fun capturing every door I set my eyes on! Even though it was pretty cloudy, the details just popped.

After door hopping I stopped into the Olde Market at Hudson for lunch, then made my way about 10 minutes south to the Olana house. It was closed for tours when I went, but you can still park at the top of the hill, walk around the house, and take in the incredible view. I definitely want to go back in summer to see inside though!

Olana was beautiful, but very windy! I made my way back to the car and headed south. By the time I made it to Rhinebeck it was lightly raining, but the main street was too pretty not to try and take a few pics.

By the time I left Rhinebeck it was raining in earnest. I was still enjoying the scenery on my drive though, so I stopped at the Vanderbilt mansion near Hyde Park. Sadly I arrived just in time to miss the most recent house tour, and the next one wasn't for almost 2 hours. Oh well, more things to come back to! Instead, I made my way to Beacon. You can see my guide for visiting that lovely town over here, but on this particular day I only got out of the car for a few minutes with my trusty umbrella.

I hope you enjoyed this Hudson Valley road trip, if you follow my footsteps or even just stop into one of the towns, please let me know in the comment section below about your experience!

Thanks for coming along,

~ V
