Durham for the Holidays... Plus a Bit

Forgive me readers for I have sinned, it has been 7 months since my last update (did I write this in October 2022 and change the publish date back to April so all the posts go in order? Yup). A lot has changed in that time, so let’s pick up where we left off on my year of nomadic adventures.

~

I lived in Louisville from the end of September to the end of November 2021. I had a great time and met some awesome folks, but when Thanksgiving was over, it was time to move onto a new place. That next place was Durham, NC. I had visited briefly before (I have family in the area) and while it didn’t seem like my kind of long-term place, I wanted to spend some time around family during the holiday season and spending a month in Durham seemed like a great way to do it.

Due to some logistical changes and some work travel that ended up being canceled (thanks rona, again), what I thought would be 6 weeks in Durham actually ended up being 11. I moved into a little AirBnB house the weekend after Thanksgiving and ended up staying until early February. During that time I got to make the most of being around family, and I got to really solidify the fact that Durham was not going to be my long-term home. It’s a fun place to visit, and I’m sure the locals and college kids at Duke would agree the area is nice. But it didn’t have what I was looking for.

While I didn’t choose Durham as my final destination, here are some of the fun things I saw and did during my time there. I’ll save the food & drink recommendations for a separate post.

Family at Xmas Time

A Drag Queen Christmas with my Cousin

Durham Botanical Gardens / Nasher Musuem of Art

Alphonse Mucha exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art (my fav artist of all time)

Thanks for coming along to Durham, NC with me. Up next will be a deep dive in all things food & drink in Durham, before we move onto the next location.

~ Happy traveling, V ~
