Lakeside Eating & Exploring Fremont

Fremont & Northlake Way (Wallingford), Seattle, WA

Back in March I spent some time in Seattle for work and tried to make the most of my free time to get to know this amazing town. You may have seen my previous posts about Downtown or Capitol Hill, and now the focus turns to the neighborhoods north of the water: Fremont & Wallingford.

On my first night going from Redmond over to Seattle, I used a great recommendation from one of the locals I was working with on site and drove straight to Ivar's Salmon House. Set up as a Northwest Native American Longhouse with a view overlooking Lake Union and the Space Needle in the background, this is a must-visit spot for both tourists and locals alike.

As you can see, this unique spot is definitely a cool place to spend an evening.

On a different afternoon I spent some time exploring the Fremont area before making my way to another waterside dinner. With a great mix of cool restaurants, trendy little shops, and Gas Works park (which reminded me of my college days near the Steel Stacks in Bethlehem, PA), this was definitely a fun area to visit.

I stopped into the shop above and bought some beautiful sunglasses, I mean who can say no to a sign as simple and as great as that!

All that walking around Fremont led me to another great waterside eatery, Westward. I love sitting at the bar so I can talk to locals and get recommendations, and this one was definitely a conversation piece! That paired with interesting bar staff and a wonderful meal make this another one for the re-visit list.

The glasses hidden behind my beverage of the evening were the ones I picked out from Pipe & Row earlier that day. I have a weakness to fresh specials, and this little guy below was delicious.

If I had more time in Seattle I would have loved to explore more of this northern area, a few friends had suggested Ballard so I'll have to add that to my list for next time. For now I'll have to be happy with two great meals and a fun new pair of sunnies.

I hope you enjoyed this quick look into northern Seattle and will put either or both of these restaurants on your to-visit list!  Let me know if you find any more great spots to visit in these northern neighborhoods in the comment section below.

Keep exploring,

~V
