New Mexico Eats - October 2024

October Eats:

Here are all of the noteworthy places where I ate in Albuquerque & Santa Fe, NM in October 2024 while I was there visiting family for a few weeks

Albuquerque

Church Street Cafe - Old Town

  • This place has a very long history in Albuquerque, with the original building dating back to the early 1700s. A staple of old town, pop in for some delicious New Mexican cuisine. Don’t forget the sopapilla!

Santa Fe

Tonic - Downtown Santa Fe, near the Plaza

  • This cocktail bar has been a favorite of mine for a while. The space is a renovated theater with high ceilings and a beautiful central bar. This visit I got to sit and talk to the owner who is also the main bartender, about all things cocktails. Check this place out if you want an interesting and seasonal selection of drink choices.

Harry’s Roadhouse - Outside downtown, out Old Las Vegas Highway

  • Harry’s is a Santa Fe institution full of New Mexican & American classics. I’ve never had a bad meal here, and always make a point to stop in when I’m in town. Is a big part of that because of their pie case? Maaaaybe. Always worth it.

Apothecary Dining - Downtown Santa Fe, near the Plaza

  • I’ve had this place marked on my “to visit” list for a while because it’s mostly vegan, and this trip provided the perfect opportunity to go. The menu is full of vegan friendly options, with a big focus on health food. In reality a lot of the options were just vegan alternatives of comfort foods, but hey that is all you want sometimes. I enjoyed the meal portion… but the staff were…. very lax in their attentiveness. I felt pretty ignored for most of the meal, without anyone checking if I even needed a water refill (I did). There are so many good quality restaurants in Santa Fe, if you really want a fully vegan friendly menu this will work for you. But I’d suggest looking elsewhere for better service.
